How do you get adequate housing if not on social security yet?  

I could not live on my own with what I get from ss and ssi. I get $600/month

I work in housing. In reality, your rent/mortgage should be no more than 30% of your monthly gross income.However, due to the market currently, most people pay closer to 50% of their gross monthly income and struggle to maintain any kind of savings (even for emergencies). I would pay no more than $500 for an 800 sq ft 1-bd space.

I am not saying that what our realities are would ever be accepted as a rent payment, but what is your realistic number? If its $0 then that is a realistic number that I would like to be able to take into consideration.Example: Income $2000 Basic necessities $800Affordable rent $700 - $1000

Yes, the laws are the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Housing Act. The landlord must make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities, unless they are physical changes to the building which are structural difficult or cause undue financial hardship. Failing to make reasonable effort to accomodate disability is defined under the Fair Housing Act as a 'Discriminatory Rental Practice' and should be reported to your appropriate local official. Have her check with the ADA, Americans Disability Act.

A friend of mine has a TBI and I was just told by her that her apartment complex is making her pay her rent online. She is legally disabled and unable to do certain things online because it becomes overwhelming and she gets stressed out. This is state of Texas if that helps.
